  1. Minutes of the September 20, 2001 Executive Council Meeting were reviewed and approved as printed.
  2. The Secretary/Treasurer's report was presented, accepted, and approved.
  3. Checkbook balance: $3,156.31
  4. Money Market fund: $14, 487.04
  5. Total balance: $17, 643.35.
  6. We have received over 73% of the total membership dues for 2002. This amounts to over $960.00 in income. Budget items that appear to be constant are the $500.00 Science Teacher Award, the travel stipend of $300.00, the $500.00 Wissink memorial speaker expense, around $550.00 per semi- annual meeting and $35.00 annually for postage. A more precise budget will be presented at the next meeting.
  7. Mike Lewandowski presented the Affiliate coordinator's report. There are 17 affiliate members and one new application for Lakeshore Technical College was approved later in the meeting bringing the total to 18 affiliates. Spring meeting sponsors are; ICN represented by Tom Chwierut, Research Products International represented by Al Eccker, Saint-Gobain represented by Nelson Chiu, and Teletrix who provided literature. ICN, RPI and Saint-Gobain paid the $150 exhibition fee while Teletrix sponsored at the $100.00 level. A copy of the Affiliate Member Report presented by Mike Lewandowski is on file with the secretary/treasurer. With the increasing use of electronic communication and computers to keep track of membership dues the collection of affiliate dues will be moved back to late fall so they coincide with the calendar year.
  8. The fall meeting received four Continuing Education Credits. The ABHP course number for the 4 CEC's is 2001-09-003. Greg Smith has the letter on file. Brian has applied for Spring Meeting CE credits.
  9. The spring meeting hosts are Kimberly Knight and Marcum Martz of the Medical College of Wisconsin. Brian Vetter reviewed the slate of speakers on the Meeting Agenda. Irene Patrek will do the Newsletter write up for the Milwaukee meeting.

Old Business:

  1. Pete Wildenborg and Anne Harri collected 2001 records for archive storage following the Fall Meeting. Greg Smith will collect and archive records from 2002. This will be the past-presidents duty. Duane Hall discussed the storage of the original charter and records. Duane noted that not all records were allowed into storage at Oak Ridge. The Records Retention Committee has done their work in setting up the retention process and culling through old records. The committee will now be removed as an agenda item.
  2. The Science and Education Committee reviewed five applicants for the Science Teacher Award. Julie Olson of Mitchell High School, Mitchell, SD, received the award. The science department of Mitchell High School received a $500.00 gift as a result of this award. Ms. Olson was unable to attend our spring meeting. Her name will be submitted to the HPS for nomination for the National Award. Work on organizing Science Teacher Workshops (STWs) is proceeding slowly. Some members have been provided with local science teacher contacts but organization of a workshop is stalled. It was noted that old civil defense instruments are available to the chapter for STWs. We need to decide how many and storage issues.
  3. North Central Chapter Award guidelines written by Past-President Pete Wildenborg are now posted on the website and are on file with the Secretary/Treasurer.

New Business:

  1. Nominations for national HPS awards and offices were reviewed and approved. Award nominees are; John R. Cameron for a Fellows award and Chuck Roessler for a Founders award. Mike Lewandowski has been nominated for an executive board position and Stephen A. Simpson has been nominated for Secretary/Treasurer of the RSO Section. All awards and nominations were supported by the Executive Council.
  2. The Executive Council approved five new individual memberships and two affiliate memberships received in the last six months. The new members are; Andy Astleford, U of M; Nancy Farrington, Iowa DPH; Catherine Knox, Parker Hughes Institute; Claudiu Lungu, U of M; and Mark Reinhart, LTC. The new affiliates are Framatome ANP, Inc. Siemens Environmental Systems and Lakeshore Technical College.
  3. A review of NCCHPS committee assignments resulted in no changes and the addition of an Ad Hoc Committee on Homeland Defense chaired by Ken Kerns. Interested members should contact Ken to join this committee.
  4. There is concern about the demise of our newsletter. The Executive Council decided to re-establish a newsletter on the website and will poll the membership for an individual who would be willing to step forward and take on this task. This person would work with our web page administrator, Mike Lewandowski, on the publication and display of the electronic newsletter. It is felt that this person should be willing to do some compiling, writing, calling of members for articles and gathering of other materials.
  5. Ballots received for the 2002 election were counted. Our new President-Elect is Irene Patrek, and our new Councilors are Jeff Brunette and Tim Donakowski.
  6. The fall meeting location will be in the Twin Cities area at a site to be determined.

Meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Daniel J. McGrane, NCCHPS Secretary/Treasurer
